Beijing December 12, Xinhua News Agency – Jasmine Rice is known to everyone, but you may not know rice of same quality can also be produced in Laos. Recently a batch of Laotian native rice passed the quality check and would be put into Chinese market. This symbolizes a formal export of Laotian rice in batches to China.

As far as Xinhua International Client knows, this is the first time for Laos to export rice to China, which was only for small-scale border trade previously. Because China Certification and Inspection Group has never had an office in Laos, China Certification and Inspection Group Cambodia Co., Ltd. specially sent staff to Laos for rice inspection. It was only after inspection that rice could be packed for shipment.

Fu Jun, General Manager of China Certification and Inspection Group Cambodia Co., Ltd., said that this batch of rice had a broken rice rate lower than 2% and purity more than 96%, with beautiful appearance and soft flavor. It is green and ecological products which are proper for Chinese consumers.

Having made an application, Hunan Xuanye Ecological Agriculture Development Co., Ltd. was approved in March 2015 by National Development and Reform Commission of China with a quota of 8,000 tons of resold rice from the only Laotian base. On October 27, General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People's Republic of China (AQSIQ) approved to agree the export of rice produced by Xuanye (Laos) Co., Ltd. – a wholly-funded subsidiary of Hunan Xuanye - to China.

Xu Guowu, Chairman of Xuanye Co., told the reporter of Xinhua News Ageny that this batch of rice can be bought on e-commerce platforms in China. Xuanye Co. also plans to sell the rice globally from January. As far as Xiinhua International Client knows, this batch of rice will walk on a high-end route, with a price of about RMB40 per kilo.

Phet Phomphiphak, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry of Laos expressed at the launching ceremony that export of Laotian rice to China fully represented a relation of good neighbors, friends, comrades and partners between Laos and China.

Phet Phomphiphak said Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Laos supported to export more rice to China and hence improve the quality of agricultural products of Laos and bring more income to Laotian farmers. He said Laos would expand growing area of agricultural products to form regional production. He hoped to sign with China more trade agreements on agricultural products to sell rice, fruits, vegetables and other agricultural products to Chinese Market.
