On February 26, 2023, Chairman Xu Guowu was invited to attend the “2023 China (Shenzhen) Industry Finance and Supply Chain Finance Summit Forum” and delivered a keynote speech on “The Strategic Layout and Practice of the National ‘Belt and Road’ Initiative in the Greater Health Industry.”

Currently, the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative has entered a stage of high-quality development. To comprehensively enhance the quality and level of traditional Chinese medicine’s participation in the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative and to support the building of a community with a shared future for human health, the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Office of the Leading Group for Promoting the Construction of the Belt and Road Initiative have jointly formulated the “Development Plan for High-Quality Integration of Traditional Chinese Medicine into the Joint Construction of the Belt and Road Initiative (2021-2025).”

    With the development of the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) industry, future competition in the TCM sector will not only revolve around existing product lines and brand rivalry but will also intensify over the acquisition of upstream medicinal material resources. Southeast Asian countries boast abundant medicinal resource reserves and serve as one of China’s primary sources for imported medicinal materials, supplying many raw herbs that are scarce in China yet highly sought after. Therefore, Xuan Ye Company, in collaboration with TCM research institutions and major players in the greater health industry supply chain, is set to venture abroad and plans to establish, within the Vientiane Modern Agricultural Industrial Park, a cooperative mechanism for an ASEAN medicinal herb trading center and an ASEAN medicinal herb futures exchange market. By taking the lead in scientific research, planning, and testing, and by setting standards that guide the way, this initiative will facilitate cross-border registration and filing of biopharmaceutical products, standardize international trade, enhance customs clearance and logistics efficiency, and promote the global outreach of TCM’s greater health standards, technologies, products, services, and industries. It will also help bring in scarce southern medicinal herbs from overseas, foster both domestic and international dual circulation, and contribute to comprehensively enhancing the quality and level of participation by the greater health industry in the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, thereby supporting the building of a community of common health for mankind.
